Gabriel Oghre signs new Bristol Bears deal

Gabriel Oghre has committed his future to Bristol Bears after signing a new contract with the Gallagher PREM club.

The 28-year-old hooker has become an important member of Pat Lam’s squad since joining Bristol ahead of the 2023/24 season, making 63 appearances and scoring 26 tries. The length of his new contract has not been disclosed.

Oghre extends Bristol stay

Oghre arrived at Ashton Gate following spells with Wasps, Leicester Tigers and French side Bordeaux-Bègles and has since established himself as a regular in Bristol’s front row.

His 26 tries in 63 appearances represent an impressive scoring return for a hooker, while he also established himself among the PREM’s leading lineout throwers during the 2025/26 campaign.

Director of rugby Lam said Oghre had developed into one of the league’s leading hookers and believes the England international can continue improving.

“Gabs has developed into one of the leading hookers in the PREM and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to the Bears.

“Seeing him earn his first England cap was a proud moment for everyone here.

"He came to Bristol with the ambition of getting into that England team and it’s been fantastic to see him achieve that through the quality and consistency of his performances for the Bears.

“He’s been outstanding for us over the past couple of seasons. His athleticism, power and skillset really suit the way we want to play, and at 28, Gabs is coming into the prime years of his career. The most exciting thing is that we believe his best is still to come from him.”

England breakthrough followed Bristol form

Oghre’s performances for Bristol helped bring him into the England set-up. After touring with the national squad in 2024, he earned his first senior cap against the United States in Washington DC in July 2025.

He marked his Test debut with a try and has made clear that earning further England opportunities remains one of his ambitions.

Oghre said he was delighted to continue his career with Bristol and praised the environment created at the club.

“The way we want to play really suits me and gives me the freedom to express myself, while the coaches have continued to challenge me to improve all areas of my game,” he said.

The hooker is back available for the beginning of the 2026/27 season after a knee injury ended his previous campaign early.
