Chris Ashton scored a try while Owen Farrell added a penalty and a conversion to ensure a 10-3 win for Saracens in a closely contested European Champions Cup encounter at Allianz Park on Saturday.

After the first 30 minutes went without a point from either teams, Toulon captain and number eight Duane Vermeulen was sin-binned for a high tackle on Nick Tomkins.

Farrell kicked a penalty in the 31st minute which remained the only points in the first half as the defending champions Saracens went into half-time with a slender three point lead.

Ashton, who will join Toulon in the next season, scored the only try in the game in the 59th minute with support from Tomkins and Richard Wigglesworth and Farrell's conversion took Saracens to a 10 point lead.

Wales international and fullback allowed a brief comeback for the visitors with a 66th minute penalty but Saracens held their defence tight and ensured they completed the game with a seven-point victory.

Despite, the defeat Toulon have managed to reach the knock out stage but Saracens have gone on to claim a home quarter final.
