Newcastle Falcons have confirmed the signing of Wales international Craig Mitchell on a short-team deal.

Mitchell had stints with Ospreys, Exeter Chiefs, Cardiff Blues, Newport Gwent Dragons and Yorkshire Carnegie and will head to Kingston Park as an injury cover on a three-month contract.

The 32-year-old prop has also played for Wales in 15 Tests between 2009 and 2013 and has scored a solitary try in it.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards believes Mitchell's experience will be handy to the club following injury to their props.

"Craig is a vastly-experienced campaigner," Richards told the club website.

"He can add to our depth at a time when we have been hit by a number of injuries to our props."

Newcastle Falcons are currently languishing at the bottom of the Gallagher Premiership table after losing both their games are are set to face Worcester Warriors next at Sixways Stadium on 15th September.
