Toby Macpherson, former Australia U20 captain, has signed a contract extension with the ACT Brumbies that runs until the end of 2027.
The 21-year-old loose forward has progressed through the Brumbies Academy pathway and will now step up into the Super Rugby Pacific squad following a strong run of form.
Macpherson was a standout for Uni-North Owls this year, helping them reach the John I Dent Cup Grand Final against Tuggeranong Vikings.
He also impressed at national level, captaining the Australia U20 side at the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa. His performances earned him the Junior Men’s Player of the Year award at the Rugby Australia Awards.
Born in Dubbo, New South Wales, Macpherson moved to Goondiwindi at the age of two and began playing rugby at four years old.
He went through the junior ranks before attending Brisbane Boys’ College, which has produced several Wallabies and Brumbies stars. His performances at school level, alongside rowing, helped him earn a place in the Brumbies Academy.
In 2023, Macpherson was part of the Brumbies U19 team that lifted the Super Rugby U19 title. He later represented Australia U20 and was named captain in 2024, leading his side in South Africa.
Brumbies General Manager Cam Treloar praised Macpherson’s temperament and leadership, noting his readiness to step into the senior environment.
Macpherson said he was grateful for the faith shown in him and proud to commit his future to the Brumbies.
“Canberra has become home, and this club has given me so much. I’m excited to keep growing here and help the team achieve its goals,” he said.
