Cardiff Rugby has announced a new contract with Wales international second-row Teddy Williams, solidifying his future at the Arms Park.
The 22-year-old, a standout player this season, continues to grow as a key leader in the Blue & Black squad, making his mark both as a player and captain.
Williams, who debuted for Cardiff in 2020, recently celebrated his 50th appearance for the club during a New Year’s Day match against the Ospreys.
Known for his commanding presence on the field, Williams currently leads the BKT United Rugby Championship charts for tackles made and line-outs won.
The second-row has also stepped up as captain in recent matches, demonstrating his leadership qualities and earning praise from both teammates and coaches.
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt highlighted the significance of Williams’ renewal, describing him as a cornerstone of the team’s future.
“Teddy is a key signing for the club. He is fast developing into a foundation of our pack and a leader in the group. His set piece work, physicality, and game understanding are major assets,” Sherratt stated.
Sherratt also emphasized the importance of retaining homegrown talent. “We have been very clear about ensuring our homegrown players remain committed to the club, and I am delighted that we have secured Teddy’s services.”
The former Ysgol Glantaf pupil, who has earned two international caps for Wales, expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with Cardiff.
"It’s my home club, and I’ve come through the pathway with so many of the players here. That makes the day-to-day more enjoyable and hopefully translates to our performances on the pitch,” Williams said.
Reflecting on his leadership opportunities, Williams remarked, “Captaining the club in the absence of Liam [Belcher] and Ben [Thomas] has been a great honor, but I want to do my talking through performances on the pitch and our continued progression.”
He joins the likes of Liam Belcher, Ben Thomas, Alun Lawrence, and Cam Winnett in renewing their contracts, showcasing the club’s focus on nurturing a competitive and homegrown squad.
“We’ve shown we can be competitive, but we have to continue getting better. Working with our coaching group, especially forwards coach Corniel van Zyl, has been great in helping us grow as a team.”
