Super Rugby Round 18 - Team of the Round

Talking Rugby Union’s southern hemisphere correspondent Scotty Donaldson wraps up the penultimate round of the 2014 Super Rugby competition with a selection of the round’s and competition’s best players…

The Super Rugby team of the round has an interesting look about it with a combination of players from some teams who didn’t feature strongly in the 2014 competition, like the Lions and Force. The table topping Waratahs didn't contribute many players to this team despite such a large win in this, the 18^th round.

Samu Kerevi from the Reds is the Super Rugby player of the round, just ahead of Nemani Nadolo from the Crusaders.  Some other unheralded players to make this team include Jamie Mackintosh, Franco Mostert, Warwick Tecklenburg, Jayden Hayward and Dane Haylett-Penny. 

Others like Nathan Charles, Brodie Retallick, Marnitz Boshoff and Kurtley Beale have been here before, while interestingly, some usual inclusions like Malakai Fekitoa and Israel Folau have missed out.

Interestingly, only three New Zealand based players made the cut.

Remember that the Hurricanes have the bye next round, while the top two sides will have the bye in the first round of the finals, so Waratahs, Sharks or Crusaders players may not be worth purchasing.
