Highlanders have confirmed the signing of wing Solomon Alaimalo from rivals Chiefs ahead of the 2021 season of Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Alaimalo debuted for Northland during the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup and switched to Waikato in 2019. He made his Super Rugby debut for Chiefs in 2017 and has gone on to play 44 games in which he scored 21 tries. The 24-year-old's campaign in the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup was cut short by a shoulder injury.

"The Highlanders play an attractive brand of rugby and of course playing under the roof tend to makes the game a bit faster and the outside backs tend to see plenty of the ball, all of that suits me fine.," he told the official website of the club.

“I enjoyed every minute of my time with the Chiefs but im looking forward to this opportunity down south to compete and add value where I can.”

Highlanders head coach Tony Brown is delighted in securing the services of Alaimalo for the next three seasons.

“We’ve been looking for a big outside back to add to our squad and Solomon is a big man who has good aerial skills combined with strength and pace and will be a welcome addition to our back three.”
