Connacht Rugby have confirmed that defence coach Scott Fardy will leave the province at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The former Australia international and Leinster forward joined Connacht in 2023, taking up a key role in the coaching staff during a transitional period for the team.

Fardy’s departure comes amid a broader reshuffle in the club’s backroom setup following a season that saw Connacht struggle to secure a place in the United Rugby Championship play-offs or Champions Cup qualification.

The defensive unit under his leadership faced challenges throughout the campaign, contributing to the team’s inconsistent performances.

In his two-season spell, Fardy brought a wealth of experience from his playing career and sought to instill a competitive edge in Connacht’s defensive structure.

Despite the tough results, his influence was appreciated by players and staff alike, and the club acknowledged his service and commitment, wishing him and his family well for the future.

The exit of Fardy follows that of head coach Pete Wilkins, who has moved on to a new role with Benetton, and attack coach Mark Sexton, who will join Ulster. These exits signal a major shift in Connacht’s coaching leadership.

To reinforce the staff, Australian Rob Seib has been appointed as senior assistant coach with a focus on attack, while Billy Millard is set to join from Harlequins in the newly created position of general manager.

Connacht have indicated that further announcements regarding the remainder of the coaching structure will be made in the coming weeks.
