South Africa international Uzair Cassiem will miss the first month of the upcoming Pro14 season for Scarlets following a calf injury.
The 28-year-old suffered the blow during the pre-season friendly against Bath last weekend and underwent a scan that revealed the extent of the damage.
A statement released by Scarlets confirmed that Cassiem is likely to return to action in a month's time.
"He should make a full recovery and return to action within four weeks," read the statement.
Cassiem joined Scarlets from Cheetahs ahead of the 2018/19 season and has experience of representing South African sides Golden Lions, Falcons and Pumas.
He has also played for the Springboks eight times between 2016 and 2017 in which he scored a solitary try.
Scarlets will kick-start the 2018/19 season of Pro14 with a clash against Ulster Rugby at Kingspan Stadium on 1st September.
