Scarlets have announced the signing of flanker Jarrod Taylor with immediate effect.

Taylor made his debut with provincial side Western Province in 2022 and has scored four tries in six starts.

The decision to sign the 22-year-old follows after Josh Macleod is sidelined with a long-term knee injury while Taine Plumtree is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel revealed that Taylor has signed a contract "for the remainder of the current season and beyond".

“Jarrod is a player who has impressed us with his performances in the Currie Cup and has an outstanding pedigree in South African schools rugby," he told the club's official website.

“He is an abrasive player, with and without the ball and is strong in the contact area. He will add to the young group of back-rowers we already have at the club.”

Scarlets are positioned 13th in the United Rugby Championship table with two wins from nine matches.
