Connacht 5-50 Leinster, Dexcom Stadium
Leinster produced a dominant performance to defeat Connacht 50-5 in the BKT United Rugby Championship at Dexcom Stadium on Friday night, scoring seven tries to secure a bonus-point victory.
Despite making 14 changes to their starting side, Leo Cullen's team controlled the contest, with Joey Carbery contributing 20 points through a try, six conversions and a penalty.
Leinster Take Control Before Half-Time
Before kick-off, Connacht paid tribute to the late Seán Coppinger, a valued member of the club's operations team.
Gus McCarthy opened the scoring in the 16th minute, powering through Shayne Bolton's tackle following a well-worked lineout move. Carbery converted before Jordan Larmour added Leinster's second try.
Connacht responded through Dave Heffernan, who crossed from a driving maul in the 28th minute.
However, Todd Lawlor restored Leinster's momentum after collecting Larmour's pass and racing down the left wing. Carbery converted to give the visitors a 21-5 half-time lead.
Leinster Extend Their Advantage
Connacht began the second half with attacking pressure, but Leinster's organised defence held firm.
Carbery extended the lead with a penalty before captain Max Deegan finished a flowing move to secure Leinster's bonus-point try. The conversion was missed, leaving the score at 29-5.
Carbery then crossed following a clever five-metre scrum move involving Larmour and converted his own try to make it 36-5.
Mangan And Gunne Complete The Rout
Replacement Ciarán Mangan intercepted Josh Ioane's pass in the 72nd minute and raced clear to score Leinster's sixth try.
Fintan Gunne completed the scoring with a close-range finish five minutes later, with Carbery adding his sixth conversion.
Connacht made one final attacking effort, but Leinster's defence held firm to complete an emphatic victory.
