Scarlets have announced the signing of former Wales Under 20 international Ed Scragg ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Scragg represented Wales at the under-18, under-19 and under-20 level and played in every fixture of the 2019 Under 20 Six Nations Championship. He also represented Wales at the World Rugby Under 20 Championships in 2019 and came through the Dragons Academy while studying on the sports management course at Cardiff Met University.
Following a stint with Cornish Pirates and a loan spell at Plymouth Albion, the 23-year-old joined London Irish in 2022. During this time with the Exiles, he played six Premiership Rugby Cup games helping them reach the final before heading to Australia for a loan deal with Sydney University.
“It was sad to finish my time at Irish in the manner that it ended and I’d like to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me and wish everyone well for the next chapter," he told the club's official website.
“I am grateful to the Scarlets for giving me the chance to continue my professional career and I am excited about linking with a great club with a proud history when I return to Wales now that I have finished my time playing in Sydney.”
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel is pleased with the addition of Scragg to the squad.
"Ed is a talented young Welsh lock with a lot of potential. He has been gaining invaluable experience with Cornish Pirates in the Championship and more recently London Irish and is looking to continue his development with us at the Scarlets.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Parc y Scarlets when he returns from his spell playing in Australia.”
