Saracens 73-14 Newcastle, StoneX Stadium
Noah Caluori stole the show as Saracens ran rampant over Newcastle Red Bulls, recording a commanding 73-14 triumph at a windy StoneX Stadium.
The visitors crossed for eleven tries in their first outing since it was confirmed that long-serving director of rugby Mark McCall will step down at the end of the season.
But it was Newcastle who grabbed an early lead when Alex Hearle broke through the Saracens defence, setting up 21-year-old lock Oscar Usher to score.
The Red Bulls could have extended their advantage moments later, but a last-ditch tackle from Saracens scrum-half Charlie Bracken kept them at bay and sparked a rapid turnaround.
Saracens quickly seized control with a penalty try awarded after Newcastle scrum-half Simon Benitez Cruz deliberately knocked on, earning a 10-minute stint in the sin-bin. Rotimi Segun then lit up the game with a brilliant chip-and-chase from inside his own half, sprinting clear to score and hand Saracens the lead.
Caluori, who has been left out of England’s latest Six Nations squad, then got in on the action, finishing a slick grubber from Elliot Daly before adding a second to secure the try bonus point.
Owen Farrell’s accurate conversions put the visitors comfortably 28-7 ahead at halftime, with Newcastle also losing Elliott Obatoyinbo to a yellow card just before the break.
The second half saw Saracens maintain their intensity. Andy Onyeama-Christie crossed after strong forward drives, and Caluori completed his hat-trick soon after.
The tries kept coming as James Hadfield scored twice, Eroni Mawi powered over to reach the 50-point mark, and Caluori completed his tally with a superb one-handed collection from a Nick Tompkins kick. Tompkins himself added a late score, while Reuben Parsons touched down for Newcastle.
