Sale Sharks have announced that South African lock Hyron Andrews has signed a short-term deal with the Gallagher Premiership club until the end of the season.

The decision to sign Andrews comes after Jonny Hill sustained a season-ending injury against La Rochelle in January.

Andrews, a product of Sharks Academy, made his club debut in 2016 and has played close to 100 games for the club since then.

Sale Sharks director of rugby Alex Sanderson is delighted with Andrews joining the club for the remainder of the season.

“Hyron is a superb athlete and a great player who we believe has been underrated and overshadowed over a few years due to the strength-in-depth and quality that in exists in the second-row within the South African system," said Sanderson to the club's official website.

“He pairs his prowess in the line out with a mobility around the park that will dovetail with the physicality we already have in our back five.

“We are lucky to recruit Hyron in his pomp at 28 years old and hope that he, Maighline his wife and young son Hendrix settle well and thrive in their new home up north.”

Sale Sharks are positioned seventh in the Gallagher Premiership table with seven wins from 12 matches.
