Sale Sharks have announced that fullback Joe Carpenter has signed a new three-year contract with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Joe joined the Leeds Carnegie academy at the age of 15 and signed with Sale Sharks in August 2019.

He made his first team debut for Sale in the Heineken Champions Cup in January 2020 and has made 40 first team appearances scoring 11 tries.

The 22-year-old also had represented England Under 18 and Under 20 teams in the past.

“I’m really happy to have signed a new contract at Sale," said Joe to the club's official website.

“Making my Premiership debut and then playing in the final at Twickenham with some of my best mates last season was brilliant and I’m really excited to see what this group can achieve together in the future.

“I love the environment at Sale and I can only see good times ahead for the club. I’ve got no doubt that with so many young, northern lads and experienced guys like George Ford, we’re going to be competing for all the big prizes and I really want to be a part of that.

“It’s a great feeling to know that Alex sees me as a big part of his plans going forward too.”

Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson is delighted with Joe remaining committed to the club.

“Joe is a mercurial, prodigious talent and we’re very lucky to have him.

“He’s as grounded as he is good, and his meteoric rise last season from Sale FC to a Premiership final is just the start for him. I’ve got no doubt he’ll go on to international honours because he has the world at his feet.

“He’s fearless in the sky and seems to have the ability to beat the first defender every time he gets the ball. He rises to every challenge and plays with a brain like a 35-year-old. He’s already a leader for us but he’s definitely future captain material.”
