Sale Sharks confirmed that former Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer will remain on the sidelines for upto three months after a tear on his biceps tendon.

The 38-year-old suffered the injury in the 57th minute of the recent Aviva Premiership game between Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors which ended in a 34-34 draw.

Sale Sharks rugby director Steve Diamond confirmed the news on Stringer to BBC Sport.

"He snapped his biceps tendon on Saturday so he's going to be out for two to three months," said Diamond.

Stringer has made 98 appearances for Ireland between 2000 and 2011 and has represented Bath, Newcastle and Saracens in the Aviva Premiership apart from playing for Munster in over 200 games.

With just one win from four games, Sale Sharks are placed ninth in the 2016/17 Aviva Premiership table.
