Northampton Saints' longest-serving player, Rory Hutchinson, has extended his contract with the club, further cementing his legacy with the men in Black, Green, and Gold.
The Scotland international, who joined Saints' Academy over a decade ago, has already made 166 appearances and scored 236 points, including 34 tries, since his senior debut in 2015.
Hutchinson, 28, is enjoying one of his best seasons yet, having already made 14 appearances, scored two tries, and earned the cinch Player of the Month award for September.
Saints' Director of Rugby, Phil Dowson, lauded Hutchinson's exceptional form and commitment to the team.
“Rory has been with us the longest and is playing the best rugby of his career,” Dowson said.
“His defensive abilities have improved significantly, and he’s a critical part of what we’re building at the club.”
Dowson also commended Hutchinson’s perseverance and character, particularly in earning his way back into Scotland’s national team setup.
Born in Cambridge, Hutchinson began his rugby journey with Cambridgeshire, Eastern Counties, and the Scottish Exiles before joining Northampton's Academy. He made an immediate impact during his first Premiership start in 2016/17, scoring a stunning try against Exeter Chiefs, which was later named Saints’ Try of the Season.
Hutchinson became a first-team regular in the 2018/19 season, helping the club reach the Premiership semi-finals and secure the Premiership Rugby Cup. His performances earned him the Saints’ Breakthrough Player of the Year award and a nomination for the Premiership’s Discovery of the Season.
Internationally, Hutchinson made his Scotland debut in 2019, scoring twice in his first start against Georgia. He has since earned nine caps and continues to be a key figure in the national team.
Reflecting on his journey, Hutchinson expressed his gratitude and excitement about extending his tenure at Northampton.
“Northampton has been my home for the last 11 years, and I’m thrilled to be keeping it that way,” Hutchinson said. “I feel like I’m back to my best and am grateful to the coaching staff for helping me improve my game.”
