Sale Sharks prop and rising England star Asher Opoku-Fordjour has signed a new three-year deal, extending his stay at the club where his career has flourished.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest front-row prospects in English rugby, solidifying his position both domestically and internationally.

Opoku-Fordjour joined Sale Sharks in 2022 after Wasps' suspension from the Gallagher Premiership left him without a club. Since then, his journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

After making his first-team debut in the Premiership Rugby Cup at the start of the 2023/24 season, Opoku-Fordjour earned his Gallagher Premiership debut in November 2023.

He quickly established himself as a regular in Alex Sanderson’s first team, scoring his maiden try for Sharks in a December victory over Leicester Tigers.

On the international stage, his rise has been equally remarkable. He featured in the England U20s squad for the 2023 U20s World Cup and earned his first senior cap during the 2024 Autumn International Series against Japan.

In January, he was named in England’s 2025 Six Nations squad, a testament to his rapid development and potential.

Reflecting on his decision to stay, Opoku-Fordjour shared his gratitude for the environment at Sale Sharks.

"This club feels like home and it was an easy decision to stay.

"I’ve grown in confidence here and there’s a massive opportunity for me to continue to grow and develop my game. I really believe we’ve got the players and the coaches here to achieve anything."

Despite his recent success, the young prop remains grounded, emphasizing the need to stay humble and focused on continual improvement.

Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson expressed his delight at securing Opoku-Fordjour’s services long-term.

"Asher is incredibly level-headed for a 20-year-old, and that maturity comes across on the field in how he performs and handles pressure. He’s a very special talent and we love him here."
