Harlequins have announced the appointment of England scrum-half Danny Care as their club captain.

Care, 28, has won 51 caps and is expected to be named in England's World Cup squad later this month.

He will take on the Quins leadership role from this season.

Care joined the Aviva Premiership club in 2006, going on to make close to 200 appearances and scoring more than 50 tries.

Quins rugby director Conor O'Shea said: " We are lucky to have a number of players who are natural leaders, but in Danny we have a player who, to me, epitomises how we play and what we are known for as a team.

"In making him captain, we are making a statement as to how we intend to play and challenge for the title again."
