PRO14 Rainbow Cup SA to kick-off from 1st May

South Africa Rugby and PRO14 have announced the revised schedule for Rainbow Cup SA with the tournament kicking off from 1st May.

The tournament which was originally set to see the four South African teams joining the 12 teams in Pro14 but was divided into dual competition after the teams were denied entry into the UK and Ireland following restrictions in place due to the pandemic coronavirus.

The opening game of the tournament will see Stormers and Sharks facing each other at Cape Town Stadium followed by clash between Bulls and Lions in Pretoria with both the games scheduled on 1st May.

The second round has been scheduled on 8th May with the third on 15th May. The tournament will come to a conclusion on the second week of June.

“It’s a pity we could not have the competition as we first envisaged it, but to see these four teams slug it out over seven weeks is sure to bring out the best in South African rugby,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.

“We are very grateful to SuperSport for being so accommodating in the late changes, and to our friends in Europe for allowing our teams to continue in the competition they’ve been preparing for.”

The games will be broadcasted ive in South Africa on SuperSport, as well as in the UK and Ireland by eir Sport (ROI) and Premier Sports (UK).
