One player test positive in Premiership's latest round of coronavirus testing

The latest round of Premiership's coronavirus testing saw one player reported positive which has been the lowest since the process had started.

A total of 1043 tests were conducted which has been the highest in the seven rounds so far and the news will be a big boost for the tournament that had resumed last week after suspended since March following the outbreak of Covid-19.

The player along with his close contacts will face isolation in accordance to the government guidelines.

Earlier, the first round of testing was conducted on 6th July with 804 tests conducted in which six players and four staff were tested while the second round was conducted on 13th July where seven players and two staff were tested in 856 tests conducted.

The third round had 896 tests conducted on 20th July in which four players and a staff returned positive result for Covid-19 while the fourth round had 850 tests that returned five positive cases. The fifth round had two positive cases - one each of a player and a staff in the 917 tests conducted.

The Premiership Rugby is set to resume on Friday after being on suspension since March following the outbreak of Covid-19 while the sixth round saw four positive cases in 989 tests.

Widely regarded as the most competitive rugby union league in the world...it can only be the Gallagher Premiership.
