Leicester Tigers have confirmed that England international lock Ollie Chessum has signed a new long-term contract, securing his future with the Gallagher Premiership club.

A lifelong Tigers supporter, Chessum has been an integral part of the Leicester squad since rejoining in 2020, making 60 appearances so far.

The 24-year-old has shown his talent and leadership on multiple occasions, including starting in the second row during Leicester’s Premiership title-winning final in 2022.

Chessum’s rugby journey began in the Tigers’ academy system before a stint with Nottingham in the Championship. His return to Leicester marked the beginning of a promising senior career, with Chessum making his debut against Gloucester in August 2020.

Chessum’s impressive form at club level earned him a call-up to the England national team, where he won his first cap against Italy in 2022.

Despite a challenging injury setback in 2023, he returned to play a key role in England’s Rugby World Cup campaign, solidifying his status as a vital player on the international stage.

Currently recovering from an injury sustained during England’s Autumn International camp, Chessum expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with Leicester Tigers.

"I’m very pleased to know my future is here at Leicester Tigers,” Chessum told the club's official website.

“This is my home. I’ve loved the club my whole life, I’m surrounded by good mates and come to work in an environment that demands high standards and work ethic every day. That’s perfect for me at this stage of my career.”

Chessum has also taken on a leadership role within the squad, captaining the side in their opening fixture of the season against Exeter. Head coach Michael Cheika praised the young lock’s contributions and his importance to the club’s future.

"Ollie is 24, homegrown, has Leicester Tigers in his blood, and is a high-quality player," said Cheika.

“He has been introduced to a leadership role this season and showed good skills given the opportunity. I’m very happy he will be part of the club these coming seasons.”
