Wales 20-17 Scotland, Principality Stadium

Dan Biggar kicked 15 points including a decisive drop goal in the 70th minute as Wales defeated Scotland 20-17 in the second round of the Six Nations at Principality Stadium on Saturday.

Scotland headed into the game with a lot of confidence following their win over England in the opening round but now their record of not winning in Cardiff for the last 20 years remains as they are at third place in the table while Wales with their first win climb to fourth place.

The game also was a milestone for both skipper Biggar and Jonathan Davies as they made their 100th appearance for Wales.

An early infringement from WP Nel allowed Biggar to open the account for Wales with a 10m penalty kick in the 4th minute and soon they doubled their tally after exerting pressure on the Dark Blues. Biggar got the three-pointer right making it 6-0.

It was a matter of time before Scotland responded back and it was Darcy Graham, who dived in the corner after collecting a long pass from Finn Russell. However, Russell could not convert as Wales continued to have a one-point lead.

Russell made amends for his earlier miss with a penalty kick right in front to take Gregor Townsend's men to a two-point lead and as the first quarter was about to end he slotted his second successful three pointer after Wales were penalised for their entry into that maul making it 6-11 before Biggar kicked a penalty goal off his own to reduce the gap down to two points.

Russell took his personal tally to nine points after Wales were once again punished for a set-piece error before Tomas Francis dotted down for the home side following a line out to level the scores 14-14 at the end of an evenly contested opening half.

Scotland, who lost Matt Fagerson to injury before the break were quickest to get off the block in the second half following a fourth penalty kick from Russell and just as Wales survived injury scares to Biggar and Liam Williams, the Welsh skipper responded back with another three-pointer to level the scores 17-17 by the end of the third quarter.

Just as Cuthbert came close to score in the left corner that was ruled out later, Scotland lost Russell to sin-bin for a deliberate knock-on before Biggar landed the decisive penalty goal in the 70th minute to seal a thrilling win for Wayne Pivac's men.
