Ireland 57-6 Italy, Aviva Stadium

Ireland ran a nine-try riot as they trounced a 12-man Italy side 57-6 in the third round of the Six Nations at Aviva Stadium on Sunday.

This is the 100th defeat for Italy in the Championship and are currently on a 35-game losing streak in the competition.

For Ireland, this is their second win in three games as they have taken their tally to 11 points - three behind top placed France while Italy are languishing at the bottom.

Ireland made a dominating start as Joey Carbery on his second start in the competition went over after a good build up from Dan Sheehan. Carbery also followed with the conversion as the home side raced to a 7-0 lead.

The visitors opened their account in the 14th minute as they won a penalty at the half-way mark which Edoardo Padovani nailed to perfection.

The end of the opening quarter saw Italy reduced to 13 players as Hame Faiva who replaced the injured Gianmarco Lucchesi in the 18th minute was sent-off for a dangerous tackle on Sheehan while Toa Halafihi was also asked to leave the field as they were forced to go to uncontested scrums.

Ireland immediately capitalised on the two-man additional numerical advantage as Jamison Gibson-Park strolled over the line in the 20th minute before Michael Lowry had a dream debut as he dotted down around the half-hour mark making it 19-3.

The bonus point for Andy Farrell's men came shortly as skipper Peter O'Mahony marked his first Six Nations start with a dive in the left corner making it 24-3 before an offside infringement from the hosts allowed Padovani to land a penalty goal as the teams finished the opening half with a 24-6 scoreline.

Even though Ireland took a while to get off the block in the second half, there was no stopping them as Lowe crashes over out wide, through a gaping hole after Italy are draw infield to the posts in the 52nd minute and four minutes later Lowry completed his second try after collecting a dummy from Johnny Sexton, who made a comeback from an injury.

Sexton also kicked the conversion to perfection as Ireland increased their lead to 36-6.

With Ryan Baird scoring Ireland's seventh try, they looked threatening for a big win and as Italy were reduced to 12 players following sin-bin to Braam Steyn for deliberately batting the ball into touch, the home side scored two more tries through Lowe (78') and Kieran Treadwell (81') as Farrell's men returned back to winning ways.
