Australia head coach Joe Schmidt has named a 36-man squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship tournament.
Marika Koroibete ends speculation about his retirement following the 2023 Rugby World Cup as he makes a comeback and is the only foreign-based player in the squad that also sees the return of Angus Bell, who has recovered from a foot injury.
Schmidt has selected six uncapped players in the squad that includes Luke Reimer, Carlo Tizzano, Seru Uru, Hamish Stewart, Max Jorgensen and Corey Toole. Lock Will Skelton misses out on the selection despite impressing for La Rochelle.
Liam Wright and Langi Gleeson are sidelined by injuries but Darby Lancaster, Charlie Cale and David Feliuai were left out of the squad.
“There was plenty of discussion among the coaches but we’re hopeful that the squad selected will embrace the challenge of playing South Africa over the next fortnight or so,” Schmidt said.
“We know there’s a lot of hard work to do ahead of those Test matches and we’re looking forward to getting back together as a group on Saturday and rolling up our sleeves.
“The players enjoyed the vocal support we received during the July Tests, and they will be looking to earn continued public support over the coming weeks.”
Australia have won all their three matches since Schmidt took over as the head coach this year. They will be hosting South Africa in the opening round on 10th August.
