The Wallabies have suffered a significant midfield setback ahead of Saturday’s second Test against Japan in Townsville, with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii ruled out by a minor hamstring strain.
The 23-year-old picked up the injury during Australia’s victory over Japan in Osaka.

Suaalii will miss the Townsville Test after experiencing hamstring soreness following last weekend’s match.
The latest setback continues a frustrating 2026 campaign for the Waratahs centre, who managed only five Super Rugby Pacific appearances because of injury problems.
His absence comes with Len Ikitau already unavailable due to an ankle injury, forcing the Wallabies to consider another new midfield combination for the second Japan Test.
Josh Flook Joins Wallabies Squad
Queensland Reds centre Josh Flook has been called into the Wallabies squad as Suaalii’s replacement and has joined the group in Brisbane.
Flook provides an experienced option for the selectors and has an established combination with fellow Reds midfielder Hunter Paisami.
The 24-year-old could make his first Wallabies appearance since featuring against Japan last year as Australia weighs its options for the Townsville encounter.
Isaac Henry in Contention for First Start
Suaalii’s withdrawal could also open the door for Isaac Henry to make his first Test start.
Henry made his international debut from the bench during Australia’s victory in Osaka.
The injuries to Suaalii and Ikitau mean Australia will field a different centre combination from those used during the Nations Championship.
