Sale Sharks have confirmed that head coach Marco Bortolami has left the club after just six months in the role.

The club said his contract was terminated by mutual agreement due to unforeseen circumstances.

Bortolami joined Sale Sharks in June after leaving his position as head coach at Italian United Rugby Championship side Benetton.

The 45-year-old is one of Italy’s most decorated former players, having won more than 100 international caps during his playing career. He also made history as Italy’s youngest-ever captain, taking on the role at the age of 22.

In a brief statement following his departure, Bortolami thanked the club for their support during his time in Manchester.

“I would like to thank everyone at Sale for making me feel so welcome during my time at the club. I wish the club every success.”

Sale Sharks are positioned seventh in the Gallagher PREM table after managing just two wins from six matches.
