Lyon fullback Delon Armitage to miss remainder of 2018/19 season

Lyon will miss the services of former England international Delon Armitage for the remainder of the season following a knee injury.

The 34-year-old sustained the blow during Lyon's Top 14 season opener against Toulouse at Stde de Garland on Saturday which ended in a 16-16 draw.

Armitage will now undergo a surgery that will keep him on the sidelines for close to 10 months effectively keeping him out of action for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

His professional rugby debut came with London Irish in 2002 and after a 10-year stint with the Exiles he switched to Toulon before joining Lyon in 2016.

Armitage's debut for England came in 2008 and has featured in 26 Tests with his last appearance coming in October 2011 against Scotland.

Meanwhile, Lyon skipper Juilen Puricelli has also been sidelined for up to two months after he sustained a shoulder injury against Toulouse.

Lyon are set to face Castres next at Stade Pierre-Fabre on 1st September.
