Northampton Saints have secured the services of Luke Green for the foreseeable future, as the tighthead prop has signed a contract extension ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Green, who joined the club from Major League Rugby side San Diego Legion last summer, has made a strong impression in his first season with the Saints, making 15 appearances across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has showcased his scrummaging ability, mobility, and effectiveness in open play, earning praise from Saints’ Director of Rugby, Phil Dowson.
Dowson highlighted Green’s dedication and rapid progress since arriving at the club, particularly his commitment to improving key aspects of his game.
“Luke first came into the club for preseason before the 2023/24 campaign and was really impressive – both in terms of his physical attributes and the way he applied himself,” said Dowson.
“He then went away to San Diego, which only finished in August, so Luke didn’t have a long preseason with us this year, but again, what we did see in that time was his strong appetite to get better.
“What’s been most pleasing from him this season is how he’s put all of those things into performances on the pitch. We’ve seen him scrummage really well coming off the bench in the Premiership, and we’ve seen him carry the ball well – particularly against Harlequins recently, he was excellent.”
Green has also demonstrated significant improvement in his breakdown work and overall game awareness, making him a valuable asset to the Saints.
Before his move to Northampton, Green developed his skills in Major League Rugby with San Diego Legion and previously came through the London Irish Academy system.
He represented England at Under-18 and Under-20 levels, earning eight caps and playing a key role in England’s 2021 Six Nations Grand Slam victory.
His senior debut came in 2020 in the European Challenge Cup for London Irish against Agen, before making a total of eight appearances for the Exiles. He also gained valuable experience on loan at Championship side Ampthill before moving to the United States.
The prop is thrilled to continue his journey with Northampton Saints and is eager to further develop his game within the club’s highly competitive environment.
“I’m incredibly excited to extend my time at Saints,” Green said. “I’ve settled in very well, both on and off the pitch. It’s a great club, a great environment, and a place where I feel everyone wants to improve and get better, from top to bottom.”
“At this stage of my career, development is my focus – I want to play, and I want to keep getting better as much as possible, and Northampton is where I want to do that.
"A big part of what makes Saints so unique is the passion of the supporters. The whole town gets around the club, and that’s very special.”
