London Irish have secured the signing of versatile South African back Benhard Janse van Rensburg ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Having started his career with Currie Cup side Leopards in 2016 he went on to play for Sharks and Cheetahs between 2017 and 2020 before heading to Japan to play for NEC Green Rockets in 2021.

During his time with Cheetahs, he went on to play 34 times in Pro14 and represented South Africa Under 20 side in 2016.

“I’m really looking forward to joining London Irish," he told the club's official website.

“This is a great opportunity for me to play for a fantastic Club in one of the best leagues in the world.

“Moving to England and playing in London is something that really excites me – I can’t wait!”

Earlier, Jack Cooke, Isaac Curtis-Harris, James Stokes, Jacob Atkins, Ben Atkins and Caolan Englefield have committed their immediate future with the Exiles.

London Irish director of rugby Declan Kidney is excited about the signing of the 24-year-old.

“We’re very happy to welcome Benhard to London Irish.

“He’s an exciting young player, whose versatility will really strengthen us in the backline.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming him to Hazelwood for pre-season next month.”
