Lions came up with a dominant second-half performance as they went on trounce Stormers 41-22 in their Super Rugby encounter at Emirates Airlines Park on Saturday.

Lions hold the second position in the South African Conference with 35 points while Stormers languish at the bottom of the group.

Stormers suffered a setback when they lost Seabelo Senatla early in the game and their trouble compounded when Kwagga Smith crossed over in the 10th minute for Lions. Shaun Reynolds missed out on the conversion but kicked a penalty in the 28th minute to make it 8-0.

Joshua Stander got the visitors off the mark with a 33rd minute penalty goal but Lions still had the upper hand with Andries Coetzee dotting down in the 35th minute. Just as the half-time was approaching Stormers got their opening try by the 39th minute, courtesy Johan du Toit as the scoreline became 13-10 at the end of the first half.

Lions showed better intent in the second half with Kwagga (44'), Courtnall Skosan (48'), Aphiwe Dyantyi (57') and Hacjivah Dayimani (78') scoring tries and Reynolds kicked all the four conversions to take them to 41 points.

In response, Stormers had Hershel Jantjies (53') and Stander (65') over the line but could not prevent from succumbing to a 41-22 defeat.
