Leinster 36-7 Bulls, Croke Park
Leinster retained the BKT United Rugby Championship title with a commanding 36-7 victory over the Vodacom Bulls at Croke Park, delivering a dominant Grand Final performance in front of 39,184 supporters.
Leinster Retain URC Title At Croke Park
Leinster made a blistering start after Canan Moodie was shown a yellow card in the second minute for a deliberate knock-on while trying to stop a dangerous James Lowe-led attack. The hosts quickly capitalised, with Tommy O’Brien kicking through a loose ball, regathering and scoring in the seventh minute. Sam Prendergast converted to give Leinster early control.
Despite losing captain Caelan Doris to a foot injury, Leinster continued to dictate the pace. Hugo Keenan’s sharp break created the space for Rieko Ioane to touchdown in the 16th minute.
Prendergast Drives Leinster Dominance
Willie le Roux was sent to the sin bin for another deliberate knock-on in the 25th minute, and Leinster again made the extra man count. Jack Conan finished from close range before Prendergast added the conversion and later a penalty to send Leinster into half-time with a commanding 22-0 lead.
Bulls Fightback Falls Short
The second half began with Leinster maintaining their intensity. Prendergast capped an excellent individual display with a close-range try in the 47th minute and converted it himself to stretch the lead to 29-0.
The Bulls eventually responded through Moodie, who crossed in the 63rd minute after sustained pressure near the Leinster line. Handre Pollard converted, but the South African side were unable to build momentum.
A potential second Bulls try from Ruan Nortje was ruled out for a forward pass after a TMO review. Leinster then regained control in the closing stages, with Harry Byrne finishing under the posts and converting his own try.
The result secured Leinster’s 10th league title and made them the first team to defend the crown in the URC era.
