Gloucester Rugby have officially announced that tighthead prop Kirill Gotovtsev has extended his contract with the club.

The Russian international has become a key member of the squad since joining in 2021, and this new deal ensures he will continue to be a crucial part of the Cherry & Whites' forward unit.

Gotovtsev’s rise in professional rugby has been nothing short of remarkable. A late convert to the sport, he began his career in freestyle wrestling and also competed in bobsleigh before turning to rugby.

He first played in Russia’s domestic league with Krasny Yar, eventually earning a place in the national side. Since making the switch to Gloucester, Gotovtsev has earned widespread respect for his strength in the scrum and his hard work on the field.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time at Gloucester Rugby so far and I’m really pleased to be staying.

"The environment that the coaches have created here is fantastic and the supporters are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. I’m looking forward to continuing to represent this club and this city.”

The club has also highlighted the value Gotovtsev brings to the squad, not just in terms of his on-field performances but also the leadership and example he sets for younger players.

“Kirill has become a really important part of our squad in recent seasons. His work ethic is exceptional, and he is a top-class professional who leads by example every day. We’re pleased that he’s going to continue with us moving forward.”
