Gloucester Rugby have announced that 19 players will leave the club at the conclusion of the 2024–25 season, signalling a major transition period for the Cherry and Whites as they prepare for next year’s campaign.
Among those departing are seasoned club stalwarts Chris Harris, Ruan Ackermann, and Freddie Clarke — all of whom have made over 100 appearances for the club.
The trio have been instrumental in Gloucester’s on-field efforts over the past five-plus years, each leaving a significant legacy at Kingsholm.
Also set to exit are international talents Albert Tuisue of Fiji and Argentina’s Mayco Vivas. Their physicality and international experience brought added strength to the squad during their respective tenures.
Zach Mercer, Morgan Nelson, Louis Hillman-Cooper, and Alfie Petch round out the senior player departures, as Gloucester begin a wider overhaul of their squad ahead of a refreshed approach for the 2025–26 season.
From the Senior Academy, Morgan Adderly-Jones, Ioan Jones, Gareth Blackmore, and Rory Taylor are also set to leave the club, along with dual-registered Hartpury players Aristot Benz-Salomon and Matty Ward.
Director of Rugby George Skivington acknowledged the emotional nature of the summer exits, saying:
“With several exciting new arrivals coming in for next season, inevitably, there are several players moving on from the Club this summer.
"I’d like to thank every one of the players departing for their time here at Kingsholm and wish them all the best for the future.
"We have a tight group here, so it’s always an emotional time to see people move on, but we do so knowing it’s in the best interest of the Club and themselves.
"I know supporters will be particularly sad to see some of the more experienced heads, such as Chris, Ruan and Freddie go, and I hope they join us at Kingsholm against Northampton to give them a big send off.”
