Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has provided a reassuring update on All Blacks star Jordie Barrett, confirming that the injury sustained during the Autumn Nations Series is not serious.

Barrett is expected to join the Leinster squad this week as the team gears up for crucial fixtures in the URC and Champions Cup.

He endured a challenging Autumn Nations Series, receiving a yellow card in the match against Ireland before limping off during New Zealand’s thrilling loss to France at Stade de France.

Cullen, however, downplayed any major concerns regarding the versatile 27-year-old.

“He’s not too bad. He was a little nervous but he had a scan, so that’s what we want — get him in the door and see how he looks running around,” Cullen said.

Barrett is currently finalizing arrangements with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) and is expected to arrive this week.

Cullen added that while Friday’s URC clash against Ulster may be too soon for Barrett’s debut, fans might see him in action during Leinster’s Champions Cup opener against the Bristol Bears or at home against Clermont on December 14.

Leinster’s squad has also been bolstered by the return of Ryan Baird and Jack Boyle, who trained with the team after being released from Andy Farrell’s Ireland camp. Both players are likely to feature in Friday’s interprovincial derby against Ulster at Ravenhill.

Cullen, recently signing a new two-year contract, expressed optimism about integrating Barrett into Leinster’s setup.

“He’s making his way from wherever he is in Europe at the moment. It’s exciting to bring in a player of his caliber, and we’ll ensure he’s ready when the time comes.”
