Leicester Tigers have announced the signing of back-row Jordan Taufua from Super Rugby side Crusaders for the next season.

The 27-year-old has played for Tasman, Canterbury and Counties Manukau and has been associated with Super Rugby side Crusaders since 2013 making over 80 appearances for them since then.

Taufua has featured for both Samoa and New Zealand U20 side and was called up to the All Blacks squad last year but is yet to make a Test appearance. The 6 ft 3 in back-row confirmed that he will head to the Welford Road at the end of the World Cup later this year.

“I am very excited to be joining the Leicester Tigers after the Rugby World Cup this year," he said.

"I have taken time to learn about the history of the club and it will be an honour to be a part of such a storied rugby programme.

“I see a lot of similarities between the Tigers and the Crusaders, and I am fully bought-in to the vision that Geordan Murphy and his staff have for the team. I am looking forward to playing in front of the club’s amazing fans at Welford Road later this year.”

Meanwhile, Leicester Tigers head coach Geordan Murphy welcomed Taufua's addition to the club and expressed confidence on his abilities.

“Jordan is a very physical and powerful player schooled in the best traditions of back-row play in New Zealand.

"He has extensive experience in Super Rugby with the Crusaders and we look forward to welcoming him to Welford Road in the new season.”
