Leicester Tigers have announced that Jack van Poortvliet, their star scrum-half and a key figure in the team, has signed a new contract.
The deal ensures the 23-year-old remains at the heart of the club's ambitions as they aim to continue their successful run in the Gallagher Premiership and beyond.
Van Poortvliet's association with Leicester Tigers began during his school years when he joined the club's development programmes.
He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming an integral part of the U18 Academy League title-winning squads in consecutive seasons. His talent and dedication earned him a senior debut in the 2019/20 season, and he has since become a cornerstone of the team.
In 2022, van Poortvliet played a pivotal role in Leicester Tigers' Gallagher Premiership triumph. His stellar performances earned him a call-up to the England national team, where he made his debut in July of the same year.
To date, the scrum-half has made 81 appearances for Leicester and even added the captaincy to his accolades, leading the team earlier this season against Bath Rugby.
Reflecting on his decision to extend his stay, van Poortvliet shared his pride and enthusiasm: "This place means a lot to me. Coming through the Academy, the U18s, all you want to do is play and win for the club." He also highlighted the strong bonds within the squad and the unwavering support from fans as factors in his decision.
Leicester Tigers head coach Michael Cheika expressed his delight at the re-signing, calling van Poortvliet a "quality player and a quality person."
