Leicester Tigers are thrilled to announce that centre Solomone Kata has signed a new contract with the club, reinforcing his commitment to the team for the coming seasons.

Kata, who joined the Tigers ahead of the 2023/24 season, has quickly established himself as a key player in the squad, making 25 appearances to date.

Known for his dynamic playstyle and physical presence on the field, the 30-year-old has become a fan favourite at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

Born in Tonga, Kata’s rugby journey began at Sacred Heart School in Auckland, New Zealand. He initially made his mark in rugby league, starring for the NZ Warriors in the National Rugby League (NRL).

His talent and adaptability saw him transition back to rugby union, where he played for the ACT Brumbies in 2020 before brief stints with Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby and the Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership.

Since joining Leicester, Kata has found a sense of belonging, both on and off the pitch. His powerful performances and dedication to the team have made him an integral part of the Tigers’ setup.

Expressing his excitement about staying with Leicester, Kata said: “I’m happy to re-sign at this great club. My family are settled here in Leicester, and I am enjoying working with the coaches and the atmosphere around the club.

"I think my best days as a player are ahead of me, and I’ll always give my all for the fans and my teammates while I’m here.”

Leicester Tigers head coach, Michael Cheika, shared his enthusiasm for Kata’s decision to stay: “I’m really pleased for Sol and for the club that he will be sticking around for the long term.

"Sol is a big talent and also a big character inside the squad. We really welcome his decision to stay with the club as I know he is a player in demand.”
