Glasgow Warriors assistant coach Kenny Murray is hoping the extra preparations that club had put will benefit them in the upcoming European Champions Cup.

The Scotstoun based club had reasonable success in the Pro 12 tournaments as they managed to win the title and runners-up in 2015 and 2014 seasons respectively. However, they have never managed to go past the group stages in the European competitions till now.

Glasgow will begin the European Champions Cup campaign with a clash against the Aviva Premiership club Leicester on 14th October. The assistant coaches of Glasgow have been working on the ways to counter their challenges in the European Champions Cup in the last eight weeks and the players were briefed about it as well.

"It's a massive step up for us this week," admitted Murray.

"Leicester have been one of the top sides in Europe for the last 10 years so we know how difficult it is going to be.

"We've trained really well this week. It's a quick turnaround having played last Saturday but we've managed the squad really well.

"We've put a lot of detail into the prep but I think we've called it right. We're in a really good place.

"Europe is a big thing for this club and there's no hiding that. There's a real challenge for us and we want to do well and reach the knock-out stages.

"It's something we have been planning for the last six or seven weeks. The key though is that we have still had to take each game as they came in the meantime.

"But now this is the next game and w e've tried to make it like a Test match build-up. We stayed in a hotel on Monday night after training in both the morning and afternoon.

"We wanted to keep the squad together and give ourselves that extra bit of time to do a preview of Leicester and talks about some of their strengths.

"It's just something a wee bit different but we think it will be worthwhile."
