France are set to become the top ranked side when the World Rugby updates the rankings on Monday.

Having already registered a 42-23 win over Japan in the opening game of the summer series, Fabien Galthie’s men followed with a 20-15 win on Saturday to complete a series whitewash.

The result also followed a splendid Six Nations for the Les Bleus where they clinched the Grand Slam and now they are set to achieve the pole position for the first time since the rankings were introduced in 2003.

South Africa's 12-13 defeat to Wales will see them slip to third position while New Zealand drop to their lowest ranking - fourth - after a 12-23 defeat to Ireland in Dunedin.

Andy Farrell's men, who bounced back to level the series will now climb two places to the second position.

England's win over Australia in Brisbane meant they have reclaimed the fifth position with the Wallabies moving down to sixth.
