Chiefs ongoing Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign has been dealt a blow with a hand injury to their New Zealand international Luke Jacobson.

The 23-year-old suffered a fractured hand during the recently concluded second round clash against Blues and will now miss the remainder of the tournament.

Chiefs confirmed that Jacobson will need up to six weeks of rehabilitation which will effectively end his 2020 season.

“The rehabilitation period is approximately five to six weeks, leading to Jacobson’s unavailability for the remainder of the 2020 season,” read the statement.

This is Jacobson's second injury in recent times after a concussion ruled him out of All Blacks' World Cup campaign last year in Japan. The 6ft 3in back-row played all 160 minutes in both the games for Chiefs.

Chiefs currently are at fourth place in the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition after losing both their opening games and will take on Crusaders next in the third round at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch on 28th June.
