Newcastle Falcons have confirmed the signing of Canada international Jake Ilnicki for the upcoming season.

Ilnicki made his debut for the Falcons in Monday's A-League encounter against Wasps which his team went on to win 21-67 at Broadstreet RFC.

The signing of the 25-year-old comes after injuries to David Wilson and Scott Wilson and Newcastle Falcons rugby director Dean Richards is pleased with the latest signing.

"Jake has joined us to strengthen our tight-head options due to injuries in that position, and we look forward to working with him.

"He is an established international player, an up-and-coming talent and he already has some experience of English rugby after spending last season with Northampton Saints."

The 5 ft 11 in prop has made 21 Test appearances for Canada since making his debut in 2013 and was part of the Northampton Saints side that clinched the A-League title last season.

Ilnicki has also featured for the New South Wales Country Eagles in Australia's National Rugby Championship and Pro Rugby team San Diego Breakers apart from Manawatu in New Zealand's National Provincial Championship.
