Bristol Bears have confirmed the signing of hooker Bryan Byrne from Pro 14 club Leinster on a short-term loan deal.

The decision follows after the club confirmed that Harry Thacker will be out of action for up to three months following a neck injury.

The 26-year-old has been with Leinster since his professional rugby debut in 2014 and has featured for the Irish province 47 times and has represented Ireland at Under 18, Under 19 and Under 20 levels.

He will be available for the Bears following their Round 11 Premiership clash against Worcester Warriors at Ashton Gate this Sunday.

Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam thanked IRFU and Leinster for releasing Byrne on a loan-deal.

“Following confirmation of Harry’s long-term injury, we needed to bring in cover for the hooker position.

“We’re grateful to Leo Cullen and the IRFU for supporting this move and for their co-operation. Like all Leinster players, Bryan has proven quality and experience at the highest level of the domestic game.”

Bristol are fourth position in the Gallagher Premiership after managing five wins and a draw from 10 games.
