The Blues continued their strong form in Super Rugby Pacific with a solid 36-17 win over Moana Pasifika in Round Nine at Eden Park.

The hosts displayed early dominance and capitalised on their momentum in the first half to build a lead that proved too difficult for the visitors to chase down, despite a spirited second-half performance.

The game sparked into life just minutes after kickoff, as the Blues drew first blood through Ricky Riccitelli, who touched down after a powerful maul. Beauden Barrett added the extras and then went on to score one himself in the 15th minute, following a slick break through midfield.

The Blues’ fast-paced start rattled Moana Pasifika, who struggled to settle into the contest.

The home side’s pack kept the pressure on, with captain Patrick Tuipulotu charging over for their third try in the 25th minute. The scoreline soon read 21-0, with the Blues seemingly in full control.

Moana Pasifika finally got on the board after Semisi Tupou Ta’eiloa crossed the whitewash, offering a brief glimpse of resistance. However, the Blues quickly answered back with a superb finish by Mark Tele’a, sending them into halftime comfortably ahead.

In the second half, the Blues showed no signs of relenting. Hoskins Sotutu added another try to stretch the lead, but Moana Pasifika responded with energy, narrowing the gap thanks to a try from Miracle Fai’ilagi, who finished off a well-constructed phase of attacking play.

Despite the fightback, the Blues remained clinical when it mattered. Kurt Eklund added his name to the scoresheet in the 64th minute, keeping the hosts well clear.

A late try from Kyren Taumoefolau gave the visitors something to cheer about, but by then the result was beyond doubt.

Moana Pasifika were more competitive in the second half, but the damage had been done in the opening 40 minutes where the Blues' accuracy and discipline outshone their opponents.

This win marks a crucial one for the Blues as they continue their climb in the table, showing consistency in both execution and structure.

Moana Pasifika, despite flashes of brilliance, were ultimately undone by poor discipline and a sluggish start. The Blues’ superior forward effort and efficient backline finishing sealed a deserved win at home.
