Blues add Tiger to the Pack

Bedford Blues have bolstered their second row options with the capture of England Under 20s lock Harry Wells on loan from Leicester Tigers.

The Blues had been dealt a blow with the news that Ben Gulliver could face a number of weeks on the side lines after injuring his neck but have moved swiftly to bring in the 20 year old lock who has been playing at Loughborough before switching to Bedford.

Wells, who was part of the England Junior World Cup winning squad last season and featured during the 109-0 win over the USA, was a promising athlete who excelled at the Hammer before turning to rugby and he has thrived at Welford Road and comes with a reputation as a natural ball carrier.

Speaking about the new signing, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "We are delighted to be able to welcome Harry to Goldington Road and we really are extremely grateful to Leicester for allowing us to sign him until the end of the season.

"Ben has taken a bit of a knock to his neck and while we don't know the full extent of his injury we thought it appropriate to move swiftly and bring in some extra cover.

"Harry has been working under the tutelage of Richard Blaze at Tigers and is an outstanding prospect who has been rubbing shoulders with the likes of Geoff Parling, Louis Deacon, Graham Kitchener and Ed Slater so hopefully he can make a real impression with us and force his way up the pecking order at Leicester next season.”
