Former England captain Bill Beaumont is set to become chairman of World Rugby.

The 64-year-old, who is the current chairman of the Rugby Football Union, is poised to replace Bernard Lapasset.

World Rugby confirmed on Monday that Beaumont has been nominated by the RFU.

It said: "Bill Beaumont has been nominated for the position of chairman by his union to succeed Bernard Lapasset, who is not seeking re-election."
