Bath 62-15 Saracens, The Rec
Bath returned to PREM action in emphatic fashion with a 62-15 win over Saracens at The Rec, scoring nine tries in a dominant display under the lights.
Saracens made the better start and briefly looked capable of making it a difficult night for the hosts, but Bath gradually took control and then overwhelmed the visitors with their pace, accuracy and finishing power.
The result gave Bath a full five points and underlined their strength after the international break. Once they found rhythm, they were far too clinical for Saracens, especially in the second half when the game moved away quickly.
Saracens Start Fast Before Bath Respond
Saracens struck in the opening minute through Tobias Elliott, who finished down the near side, with Owen Farrell adding the conversion. Farrell then kicked a penalty to extend the visitors’ lead to 10-0.
Bath settled after that early pressure and hit back through Will Muir, who crossed in the corner after a sharp attacking move. Finn Russell converted to cut the gap. The home side then moved ahead when Josh Bayliss, who was later named Player of the Match, finished in the corner to make it 14-10.
Bath kept building momentum and Alfie Barbeary added another try as the hosts began to dominate territory and possession. Saracens stayed in touch when Elliott scored his second try of the evening, but Bath produced a major moment before halftime when Henry Arundell intercepted and ran in from long range for the bonus-point try.
Russell added a penalty before the break as Bath went into halftime with a 31-15 lead.
Bath Take Full Control After The Break
Bath carried that momentum into the second half and never allowed Saracens back into the contest. Ben Spencer crossed as Bath continued to control the tempo, and the impact of the bench was immediate when Kepu Tuipulotu scored soon after entering the game.
Saracens thought they had an opportunity to reduce the damage, but after being held up over the line they were denied, and Bath resumed their scoring run. Arundell grabbed his second try of the match, finishing another sharp attacking move as the home side pushed further clear.
Late Tries Complete The Rout
Bath were not finished yet. Russell helped create another opening with a clever dummy and a floated pass, allowing Ollie Lawrence to break through before Guy Pepper was handed the final pass to score.
The final try came from the bench as Bernard van der Linde reacted quickly to a loose ball and raced away to complete the scoring at 62-15.
