Aviva Premiership 2017/18 season launched at Twickenham

Players and coaches from various clubs gathered at Twickenham on Thursday for the launch of the 2017/18 season of Aviva Premiership that gets underway on 1st September.

A total of 406,000 people tuned in to watch the Aviva Premiership final last season when Exeter Chiefs registered their maiden title win after edging out Wasps and this season promises to get even better.

London Irish, which was relegated from the top tier during the 2015/16 season has returned back to the Premiership replacing Bristol following their successful outing in the RFU Championship previous season.

“Over two million fans went through the gates last season and nine million watched live on TV, both of which were new records," said Mark McCafferty, chief executive of Premiership Rugby.

"Last season 725 tries were scored which was the highest in 17 years and over 6,200 points were racked up, the second highest. It was a brilliantly exciting season...we have quite a challenge on our hands just to better that."

Widely regarded as the most competitive rugby union league in the world...it can only be the Gallagher Premiership.

The division is becoming more and more exciting as each year passes by so who will be lifting silverware at Twickenham in May?
