Bristol Rugby 17-41 Exeter Chiefs, Ashton Gate
Scorecard

Chiefs scored fives tries to overpower Bristol with a 17-41 win at the Ashton Gate stadium during the 2016-17 English Premiership clash on Friday.

Wing Olly Woodburn (2, 18) and number-eight Thomas Waldrom (32, 43) scored a double for the visitors, while centre Sam Hill (79) scored in the closing stages of the match.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson produced a perfect kicking performance by converting all five tries in addition to scoring two penalties.

Fullback Jordan Williams (21), hooker Ross McMillan (53) and his replacement Max Crumpton (70) crossed over the try line for the hosts. Williams managed to convert just one out of the three tries as the hosts significantly fell short by 24 points.

This is the fourth consecutive loss for the new comers of this season - Bristol Rugby, whereas the Chiefs have managed to bag two wins from their four games so far.

Bristol boss Andy Robinson expressed disappointment on the defeat and urged the team to continue working hard.

"The result is pretty disappointing," said Robinson.

"There was plenty of effort, but I have got to pay credit to Exeter for the way in which they went out and played the game. Their speed, their breakdown work, the way they attacked was very impressive.

"You are rocked on the back foot and working hard to get into the game, and I thought we fought hard, but too many inaccuracies happened, and therefore you are not building pressure.

"Exeter controlled the tempo of that game for large parts, and that's why it was 41 points.

"The beauty of next week is we are playing the European champions and a side that plays totally different to the way Exeter play, so we are learning new things again. Saracens have a ruthlessness, but what you will see is a (Bristol) side that will be well-prepared and will give it everything."
