Olly Woodburn crossed over twice in the first half as Exeter Chiefs completed a 31-17 bonus point win over Wasps in their Aviva Premiership encounter at Sandy Park on Sunday.

This is also Wasps' second consecutive defeat this season after they lost their unbeaten streak at home to Harlequins in their previous game.

Exeter got off the mark in just eight minutes when Woodburn crossed over for the first time but Wasps bounced back with a touchdown from Ashley Johnson while Jimmy Gopperth slotted a conversion and a penalty to take them to a two point lead.

However, the home side dominated the remainder of the first half after Dave Dennis (19'), Don Armand (25') and Woodburn (37') added further tries and secured the bonus point. At half time, Exeter had a lead of 24-10. Rob Baxter's men though a suffered a setback in the first half when number eight Sam Simmons was stretchered off the field with an injury.

The second half was competed equally and it was replacement Shaun Malton, who strolled past the post for Exeter to stretch their lead to 21 points. Even though, two minutes later, Wasps winger Josh Bassett replied back with a try of his own, Dai Young's side succumbed to a 14 point defeat that sees them in the fifth position in the table.

Widely regarded as the most competitive rugby union league in the world...it can only be the Gallagher Premiership.
